Invented in the late 1968 Roman Catholic Church still denied to its female followers and by the late 1960s almost all women had access to birth control. It was seen as a major progression and gave women control over their reproductive role, the choice if and when they wanted to be mothers (wasn't the mans choice anymore as it had been) and control over their careers. Therefore there was contracting populations in developed nations as a result and the birth rate dropped drastically in developing nations.
